Deluxo

by StreX on Dec.31, 2009, under 2009, Mixes

Deluxo

Deluxo showcases some great progressive house tracks featuring fine female vocals and smooth synth melodies. Lots of big names on this mix with stellar tracks from Eric Prydz, Steve Angello, Laidback Luke, Gregor Salto, Avicii, Kaskade, plus some classy remixes from local Brisbane legend Nick Galea. The stand-out tracks for me are the two remixes done by Arno Cost, he absolutely kills it with his use of vocals, lyrics and driving basslines. Deluxo is a perfect mix for earlier in the evening to set the groove. (continue reading…)

Voyager

by StreX on Jun.15, 2009, under 2009, Mixes

Voyager

Taking a journey into the deeper side of prog, Voyager captures that hypnotic roll of the heavy drum beat and smooth vocals with powerful lyrics. This mix really has that epic vibe to it, with all the delicate piano work and subtle melodies that put you in a more chilled mood without boring you. No progressive-house mix would be complete without a Deadmau5 bomb, and the trance masters drop in such as Armin Van Buuren and Paul Van Dyk with classy remixes by Inpetto and EDX. The first half of Voyager features the more recognizable tunes while the second half delves deeper and darker for that melancholic touch. (continue reading…)

Ripple

by StreX on Jan.02, 2009, under 2009, Mixes

Ripple

Smooth and classy, Ripple just rolls along at a steady pace and is perfect for those times when you are in the mood for some softer beats. The exquisite female vocals throughout the mix create a trancey sort of vibe but at a much more manageable tempo. Nothing beats Sia’s vocals or lyrics, she is simply superb. Special mention also goes to the melodic prog interlude of Sebasitien Leger, I’m really digging his style lately. As usual I’ve found some remixed classics to give that touch of familiarity. Cruisy. Fever

by StreX on Sep.14, 2008, under 2008, Mixes

Fever

The big chunky basslines roll on through Fever with lots of familiar vocals laid over the top. Featuring many quality remixes of classics and commercial tracks, this mix has that party vibe that progresses from the Micky Slim bangers at the beginning to the smooth exquisite vocals at the end courtesy of Axwell and Deadmau5. Velvet

by StreX on Mar.21, 2008, under 2008, Mixes

Velvet

Smooth and classy… Velvet turned out to be a bit of a tribute to two of my favourite artists – Pryda and Deadmau5. They really are musical geniuses that create such vivid soundscapes, so just slide into Velvet and immerse yourself in the progressive layers of sounds. I found some interesting whitelabel versions that have some oldschool vocals dropped over the beats for something interesting and I think it worked out awesome. I especially love the last two tracks remixed by Deadmau5, the gorgeous female vocalists and deep lyrics really hit the spot. (continue reading…)

Magnum

by StreX on May.25, 2007, under 2007, Mixes

Magnum

I tried something new with Magnum, purely male vocals. The whole mix features a wide variety of male vocalists; from thundering demon voices to fluttering falsettos, from soulful wailers to sleazy geezers – all the while the electro basslines rumble throughout. Starting off with some commercial hits to get the mix kicked off is Chemical Bros, then Dave Guetta got a slammin remix by Joachim Garraud. Calvin Harris has a few track featured that have great lyrics, I actually had a good chat with him the other night (top bloke). I love Axwell’s remode… it starts of with this oldskool vibe then drops in with fat 2007 electro. Rockin. (continue reading…)

Brio

by StreX on May.05, 2007, under 2007, Mixes

Brio

This is really a mix of contrasts. I blended completely different house styles together, as well as contrasting male/female vocals. It all comes together superbly, with the constant chunky basslines common throughout the mix. Brio sets the scene with the beautiful track ‘Strings of Tortuga’ before the classic remix of ‘Out The Door’ slides in. The third track is when the fat electro starts to kick in, and nicely followed up with a brand new thumping track from DMS12. Ben Macklin delivers the goods again with his remix of ‘Shining Star’ – absolutely love this track! I included Dirty South’s remix of the Tiesto track for my girlfriend (it’s her fave), just before the really funky electro turns up. The tracks ‘True’ and ‘Hot’ absolutely kick ass, you’ll love them. Then Brio closes off with some 2007 electro remixes of some classic tracks. (continue reading…)

Fuse

by StreX on Apr.13, 2007, under 2007, Mixes

Fuse

Massive electro beats thumping from start to finish. My man Dirty South keeps dropping bombs so I keep mixing them in. Tocadisco brings something fresh to Tiga’s hit, and Fedde keeps up his fine form with a number of fat remixes. Then in my usual style I let the ladies close off the mix with their sweet tones. Light it up! (continue reading…)
